Double trouble?!

As adviced, I want to write some things out of my head..

One of the most visual memories of my childhood was that I wasn't able to shower after P.E. but my mom couldn't write me a letter (because her Dutch isn't that good..) for school and at that time I didn't knew myself how to write shower in Dutch (douchen) so I asked my sister if she would be so kind to write it for me. And all she could scream at me was "why the hell should i write it for you, fuck off and write it yourself". So at the end of the day, ofcourse no letter and I had to shower after all..

This is a clear summary how my relation was with my sister and myself when we're younger. To be honest, I don't have a lot of memories of us together, because most of the time we just weren't together. In Dutch we have a saying "a apple doesnt fall far from its tree" but it seems that we're apple and pear. Im not sure what caused this difference, when we're younger I just kinda liked my own company. I'd hang out alot with my mom and dad, because yeah they kind awesome. But I never really hanged out with her..

When we grew older, she moved out of our parental house rather fast and I'd stayed with my parents. I sometimes feel that I had to, somebody have to help them with their administration and everything they didn't understand. It felt like my duty, because she wasn't there anymore to help out.

So she never really was my rolemodel to start with. I went to high-school, she chilled hardcore. I went to university she still chilled out. Somewhere along the road, our roles changed. I challenged myself to go to the fullest, she well.. she didnt.. And with pain in my heart I was only a witness of her life. I'm sure she isn't living the life she was expected to, but she is progressing I guess. She's almost 30, and I had so much more in mind for her. Like she says she isn't living her life for me, but all the expectations I ever had, where for her. And only for her, because why wouldn't you want the best for your own sibbling?

Everything I do, is because I don't want to end up like her.. Because I do want to achieve everything and then some.. Because I'm afraid, that when I'll look back I'll regret too much.. Because life is just too short to live one you don't like...

It's a sad story in the end, but I always have the feeling that time will learn and that even with time everything will land on its feets..

Focus

Do you ever have the feeling that life has something special for you, that you were meant for something bigger, that it is a fact rather then an opinion that you will make it in life?

Almost without shame, I can tell you that this comes to my mind almost everyday. Why would you be satisfied with ANYTHING less than the MOST you can achieve? Why would you be satisfied with the life you have now, while you can work harder to reach further, to achieve more.. At the same time I have to admit that this wasn't always the case for me. A couple of years, perhaps no more than two, I was walking trough life without a goal. I was having ideas in my mind about what I wanted from life, but things just didn't worked out the way I wanted it to. I was wining and complaining, not in public or something - just inside my mind, why didn't the international ambition that I had (and have) represent my actual life?

But then it just struck me in the face, it has no friggin use to just focuss your mind on all the things you don't have. Nothing is gonna change by it. The only thing you should take out from it, is WHAT DO YOU WANT?  Towards what goal do you wanna work, and with work I mean work hard. If you wanna get eveyrthing out of life you have to chase opportunities, they won't just ring the door and present themself! People won't notice you, when you're just sitting on the beach wasting money on stupidity and complaining about your life. When you're out in the world, life itself combined with ambition and perseverance then and ONLY  then, opportunities will come down into your life like rain onto Dutch surface..

At this moment in life, I'm so focused. I have to admit, then almost every day I picture another future for myself, but I'm focused because I know, one day, one day ahead a special thing will arise in my life just because I worked my ass off for it because I want to make something awesome with my life. e

Your life start with everything between your own ears. You have so much controll on your own life so just stop complaining if your life isn't working out at the moment, DO something about it..

Negative people..

Everybody knows this person who is ALWAYS negative.. And most people just try to avoid those people, because all the actually do is suck out your energy and what do you get back? Nothing.. But  what to do when avoiding is not an option because they are related or an attachment to somebody who is a nice, bubbly and positive?

Im not trying to say that Im little miss sunshine 24/7. But there is an Dutch saying which states "you'll catch more with honey than with vinegar". Ill try to treat everybody the same manner I would like to be treat. I life by the idea that a smile is for free and negative leads to nothing (well mots probably to more negativity) while being positive provides you with so much more!!

I'm always astonished by those people who really believe in the idea that when they need somebody's service or time, it will be helpfull to scream at them to get them to do want you want. Would you do that to? Most employees have enough power to actually refuse helping you just on the idea that they don't like you but that also means that they WILL help you when you just put that extra smile on your face, wish them a great day at work and compliment them on their provided service. You would like to be treat the same right?!

But so what to do with those people who you cant just eliminate? Are you expected to put on  your happy face even when you know beforehand you will get a shitty reaction anyway? Do you convince them with your life philosophy? Or will you in the end, consequently say, untill here and no further..

May time learn me the answer on this one!!

Wait, wait, wait a little longer..

The real world is hitting me in the face!! Have to admit the whole blogging thing is really getting a non-substantional role in the universe of Janet.. And I honestly don't understand how people blog while living their life.. I mean, it's either to party or to blog about parties..

But don't get me wrong I LOVE blogs and the people who write them.. But I just seem not to be able to combine living my life and blog about it.. At least at this point..

I have to learn French, I have to teach (2nd year undergrad students), I have to study for my last 2 exams, I have to finish my internship paper, I have to plan a professor of the year award, I have to work a bit, and ofcourse I have to enjoy the good life!

So where's time left for blogging?? I tried to make pictures of my outfit of the day, but I really don't understand who makes the pictures of all those girls blogging.. Like ont he street, on the beach etc. Because Most of the time, when Im bored like that, nobody's around me to make pictures of me like that :(

AND to top it all up. I DONT HAVE A BLACKBERRY anymore :( It kinda died on me and now I have to wait for 14 workingdays (that's more or less a month...) before it's fixed.. I really hope tho that theyll give me a brand  new one.. And I miss internet on my phone!! That was theonly manner how I checked up with all your blogs!! *sigh*

So for now.. Just wait...

Last Lecture

So as you might know, Im back in town.. First week of Dutch life was really good, no rain (yet), a lot of sunshine (but still with some freezing cold air), a lot of interviews (gotta work to get where I want), and ofcourse a lot of loved ones!

But you're not here to read about how cold it is (as you probably know for yourself..) you're here to read smt interesting..

During my 10 something hours flight back to NL, I had to switch airplanes in Kuala Lumpur. During this 3 hour break I started reading possibly one of the best books Ill ever read.. I wanted to cry even after just have read one page. It was the LAST LECTURE by Randy Pausch. You may have heard from him, his wife visited Oprah to tell his story..

Let me search for a summary:

“We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.”

--Randy Pausch

A lot of professors give talks titled “The Last Lecture.” Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can’t help but mull the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?

When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn’t have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave—“Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”—wasn’t about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because “time is all you have…and you may find one day that you have less than you think”). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.

In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humor, inspiration and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.
So this book was a last gift Randy wrote for his children, to tell them more about himself (they were to young to have real significant memories about him), how he lived his life and his life advice. The actual story was in a lecture and I added it as a youtube, since I am at the university and we don't have sound here I haven't watch it either! I know it will be a tearweeper.. But this man, the know-it-all that he was, was such a out of the ordinairy man! I don't even know if I should write more about it are that you just should buy/rent the book and read it for yourself. It really will add some spiritual value to your life! About how to appreciate time, because it is limited.. About appreciating your loved ones, because they aren't immortal. About letting go the small stuff, because a dirty sock isnt worth a fight.. About your life, because you can always improve yourself and your environment!

The Big Adventure

Sittin here with only a couple of days left of "the big adventure" I feel bipolar! I am soo looking forward going back to my normal life: study, being with my loved ones, eating at Vapiano, just being around all my stuff (kinda fed up wearing the same shit for 6 months..), being able to wear different shoes, my own bed, don't have to worry about roaming with my bb, there's so much.. But really at the same time I know that I will feel fed up and bored of it al so fast!! I guess you need those moments too..

Being in a foreign country for longer then just a holidy does so much with a girl. You learn soooo insane much about your own capabilities (and perhaps stretch up your limitations), you'll learn so much about "the big scary world", you'll get to know new inspiring people, and mostly you'll learn it's oke to be on your own and enjoy your own company. There's nothing wrong with being alone for a bit!

In the last couple of months I have been to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Thailand and every place I've been to showed me how beautifull this place we call earth is! Except for appreciate everything in my life more then I did (the struggle my parents must have been through for the promiss of a better future in the Netherlands, the wealth I know because there are alot of people way more poor then you even can imagine, the weather i LOVE for seasons) I know I'll walk away from this experience as a better human.

But I cant wait for a new adventure landing on my path! North-America perhaps? So what are your plans, which places do you want to visit? Or even deeper; what do you want out of life?

What do you wanna be?

I guess most girls play with barbies and have dreams about fairy weddings and tea parties with their stuffed friends.. I never did this. Cut all the hair off the one barbie I owned and rather hang out with the guys playing the kid version of le parcour (when I wasnt entertaining myself, kinda was a hero in that).

I also never thought of myself of being someones mom someday to be honest. I have the littlest amount of patience with kids. My mom always bought me these hamsters so I'd stuff to do (she ended up cleaning it most of the time) but they all had a tragicall end: one was eaten by my neighbours dog, another buy it brother, one broke its leg in the fuzzy cotton bed I made for him and I totally shaked one untill it was dizzy because I couldnt handle the sound of the tredmill (note I was 6 at the time). What will prevent me from shaking a totler because it won't stop crying?

I dont know but I honestly not see kids as a necesairy good for my future.. Soms gawls already know how they gonna name them. Instead I already know how to name my future dog and 2 cats (not gonna tell, dont wanna jinx). I really think that you have to be in a certain phase in life (worked enough to stay home and take care, enough space and money etc) before you can take responsibilty of those cute little popsicles and maybe you as reader think hey thats the same phase for when you're ready to have kids. But its just not. The whole have kids stay home and live a boring life just makes me wanna go to a shelter buy a cat have some booz and party the night away. Dont get me wrong tho, this is no essay of me screaming into the world wide web that Ill never have kids, its more a "where-are-you-in-life" statement.

And probably in a couple of years Ill find this blog and just laugh because how small- and simpel minded I was when I was 22. But thats life, it would be a shitty place when you just think back and say "godamit, i was friggin genius back then already and not changed/learned a bit"

can / can not

Lets change it to a can-do country and I be willing to invest in our economy xD

May 2010 grant you with all your wishes!

2010 couldn't have started better for me!!

Imagine: countdown on a crazy beautifull beach filled with malaysian rastafari's, malaysian youngsters and ofcourse some caucasians-turned-into-lobsters! Tiger beer in one hand, boyfriend in the other one. 9 - 8 - ... - 3 - 2 - 1 HAPPY NEW YEAR! People lighting up wish balloons, count down never had been this relax!!

It's a crazy feeling, to be on a wonderful beach, its 35 degrees but all my loved ones (minus bf, coz he's with me haha) frees there ass off in a minus something something environment.. But hee, like Oprah says you have to live in the moment! So I did..

My first day of 2010 was like how I would like to have every day of 2010! It started with a donut breakfast and a cup of hot tea (yeah want this everyday!), followed by some treasured hours on the beach doing sum tanning, sum jetski-ing, sum drinking fresh coconut, sum reading (super freakanomics), sum walking. Followed by some amazing foot and body massage.. Followed by some crazy delicious seafood..

Life is so good! I will post some vids-and-pics when I have sum spare time from all this awesomeness ;)

For now, I have to put on some after-sun because yes Im also a lobster..

MERRY XMAS!!!

HOWDY HO!!

Merry Christmas y'all!!

Best gift for me: NO MORE INTERNSHIP FOR ME EVAAAAAAA (okay, at least the coming year...). I finally refound my long lost freedom and am at the moment free as a bird!! SOO what happend the last couple of days? Well, let me tell you!!
Santa was also quite generous towards me! I received such precious gifts! Everybody who knows me, knows how much I love silver bracelets. Especially when people who are in my heart give them to me. Not because I only love presents (which I do.. but thats not the point), I love wearing bracelets with a story!! I have a lot of bangles bracelets and every bead is special for me, because they where given with a special reason!!

And my precious friend Stephanie gave me an awesome Pandora bracelet with a couple of beads (including a CUPCAKE <3!!!!!) It's like thet bracelet below!

Well ofcourse xmas isnt all about gifts and presents. I cherrish the moments the most, christmass eve started kinda shitty.. But ended witth a 300 dollar bottle of champagne, twilight and friends.. And thats what counts the most!!

Hope you all had a great time too and we'll keep in touch ;)

All you need is...

  • one daddy that eats all the things you don't like
  • one mommy that likes the wine a bit too much.. (she's hella fun tho..)
  • one sister that protects you
You don't need the material stuff (except, ofcourse, the SpongeBob helmet), you don't need the rich guy, you don't need all the fancyness...

You can strip off everything and in the end all that matters is family.. Everybody family has it own peculiarities, our family for sure have them (too). But you have to embrace it. Because when everything is gone, they are still there.. Mommy and daddy will still holding hands, you will still have silly arguments with your sibbling, daddy still makes funny grammar errors, mommy will still feed you crazy stuff. But they are there and that's what count..

xoxo

Last week of being the intern..

Pff.. This week feels soooooooo bittersweet! Im crazy looking forward to start traveling through South East Asia.. See my manfriend, mommy, sis and daddy again. To sleep in whenever I want to.. To do whatever I want to. To be in charge of my life again (instead of being led by the 9 till 6 bureaucracy)...

But it also means that this will be the last 'normal' week of living in Singapore.. It means saying goodbye to all those funloving people I've met overhere.. Saying goodbye to the life I've known for the last 3 months..

It feels a bit overwhelming.. But I have soo many great prospect for the next couple of months. Going to Hong Kong, catch up with some family over there.. Celebrating the holidays in another country.. Going to bounty islands.. Disney land with my mommy.. Get my sister travelcrazy in 2 weeks/4 countries.. There's soo much good stuff coming up for the first months of twenty ten..

My life's sweet..

xoxo

ps. it also means no more being 8 hours behind a computer.. so I guess all the no-added-value-of-updating-about-my-life blogs will be no longer after thursday 24 December..

17 December 2009

En to be honest, I didnt change a lot..

[...] Denken over het verleden.. Must ? of just dont.. Toekomst..

AHAHAHAH fokking hell, Im almost killing myself now... Have to admit, the fat part is kinda true..

Mijn mams..
Tering.. Ze sluiten mij altijd buiten.. (No Janet, You're not allowd in our bubble)
Mijn mammie.. Ik houd van mijn mammiee. Iedereen houdt van zijn eigen mammiee. Maar de mijne is de leypste
Shit is hella funny..

But hey, we houden het spontaan..

We betalen teveel belasting.

Guess on which ranking Singapore's.. 50? Fout! 75? Fout! 100? EFFING FOUT!

Where I wanna/should be!

Sometime you just know.. Life has more for you to offer then it's showing now.. And I know, future life for me isn't back in Holland.. Although you keep reading shit about me missing wheatbread, mommy, etc. I love life in a foreign country, the pace of life in Singapore, I go out for dinner every night, meeting new beautifull people. I'm doing a new exciting thing every week. Im learning so much about life, about myself. That I'm perfectly capable to be alone in a country where I didn't knew anybody or anything. That I'm more or less able to addapt to a new culture. That life offers you beautifull things when you're opening your soul for it.

Back home tends to be the same every day/week/year.. It's so easy to stay in your comfort zone when everything is within effortless reach. You don't need to learn new people, because you already have your incrowd. You don't have to do new things, when you can stay at home and pig out cooking. Life is safe.. But safe isn't the thing for me. Ofcourse I think ahead a lot.. Im not the rebel kind who can live truelly day by day (oke, I maybe living per week now..). But save.. No thanks.

I really feel like that life's asking me to broaden my view, go to places. It offers it right? Why don't take advantage of it! My mommy decided when she was only 18 to move to a country where she didn't spoke the language (and didnt even spoke English), didn't know anybody only for the prospect to have a better life. With her pretty face and the knowledge her familiy was supporting her she traveled all the way from Hong Kong to the Netherlands. If she had the courage at that age, without the knowledge/skills I accumulated in my life, I certainly know I have the courage too!!

But I know Singapore is not the place for me. I don't feel (and don't think I ever will..) being home here and that has not so much to do that my loved ones aren't here (ofcourse it has do a little). It has more to do with the fact that I'm not ment to live in a country so small as this full with chinese and indian people (how racy this may sound...). They (in general) do not share the same principles and I don't find myself in a position willing to share them (yuk pig instentines). However a country such as America, where you have a lot of Chinese people and Indian people but also a bunch of caucasian people and I guess like every race thinkable... NY a city with it's own principles, culture and people. It sounds sooo appealing to me.

Im always in two minds whether I want to study forever or to begin real life. I LOVE studying, it provides so much free time. But thinking about it now, I don't do jack shit with all that spare time back home. I usually stay home, sleep, watch comedies and eat. But hey, I kinda like(d) it. No worries, just go to school seems to be the only requirement in my life back home. Sure, I go to work occasionaly but that's more for fun than because of a real need of money. But I also cant wait for real life. I cant wait to move somewhere, New York sounds hella good, start up my life as a grown up (yuk, grown up) make money. Buy me some Louboutins (everybody who buys Louboutins with there daddy's money is effing gay. You should be ashamed of yourself and throw yourself in front of something!), go to the most expensive spa to get my weekly facial. Never do my nails myself again, because Ill support economy by going out for my mani and pedi. Buy my parents things, because they bought me everything I wanted for so many years, putting their needs 2nd place. Have sex and the city like brunches and dinners at some awesome place in the City. I know I'm young.. But life is calling.. No, its screaming..

I think it's time to go..

xoxo

ps. Im sorry for all who requested me writing in Dutch. Hearing Alicia singin' made me sooo enthousiastic about moving to some exciting place overseas and English ofcourse goes hand in hand with that..

YAY, Im not an outcast!!

WELL everybody seems to be more like me!!

X-Mass is coming..

Singaporeans are really into x-mass.. They started decorating Orchard road like 3 weeks ago (YEAH, even before Sinterklaas. Fail!). I think it's on CapitaLand's (Asia's biggest real estate investor) agenda to get even more people to shop even more.. But it just feels SOOOOOOOOO against every law in nature to celebrate xmass in a country where humid reachers percentages nearly 100 and where it's > 30 degrees on a daily basis..

I miss the coldness/darknesss/shopping with mummy in la Haya/sloffen/hot coco/scarves feeling!!
Every time I'm at Orchard, seeing all those people taking pictures in shorts and tanktops it like epic fail instantly.. But yeah yeah, there are TONS and TONS of great stuff in Singapore.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Canele where they sell AWESOME macaroons! Almost, no not almost, EVERY mall in Singapore has at least one amazing desert shop! And since Im overweight already in Asia (ahaha I kid I kid) I do eat deserts like EVERY day <3>
I can see the light at the end of Singapore's tunnel now (another of 2.5 weeks working, then 3 week vacation in Singapore and then sum traveling trough sout east asia) but I think I'll miss Singapore.. But thats a subject for a future coming blog!

For now scarves, macaroons, coffee and music..

Miaa Rose is WAAAAAAY more awesome (and hotter!) then Esmee Denters!! Miaa for president!!

What do you think?

I honestly can say that I know that I can be happy with a the perfect guy without a cent on his bankaccount.. Love's what matters, right Kris!

xoxo
